SOCIAL MEDIA -  Social Business and Enterprise

The data keeps coming in: The sale of social business software continues to rise and is forecast to continue rising for years. But does that translate into adoption? New data shows that while adoption is slowing, it’s indeed happening, with real benefits. If so, what are the most useful lessons we can take away from the early pioneers?

Fresh off the road and putting the final touches on a new book (more on that in an upcoming post), I’ve been catching up this week with new reports from several leading research groups as they’ve assessed how social business has been doing and where it’s headed in general. There is good news overall in terms of growth as well as crucial new insights that decision makers looking at updating the way their organizations engage with their workers, customers, and the world should be tracking.

The Next Generation Mobile - Smart Devices and Tablets
How long until laptops are completely phased out by tablet PCs?

It might be way too early to claim all laptops are obsolete, but there is certainly an expanding market for tablet computers in recent times.  According to the Olswang Convergence Survey 2011, around 5% of Americans own a tablet computer of some kind.  The increased usage and demand for this product is generated by the iPad launch in 2010 (and in typical Apple fashion, they released the enhanced iPad 2 model just one year later).  Not to be outperformed by the big almighty Apple company, a total of 14 different brands of tablet PCs were released during 2011, while at least 6 more brands will join the market within the upcoming months.

By the economic laws of supply and demand, there has to be a sizable amount of consumer demand to correspond with the upsurge in supply.  This article will explore the pros and cons of tablet PCs in contrast to desktops and laptop computers.  There will also be an in-depth price and brand comparison between the many models that have been recently released.  Which tablet PC is right for you?

What You Need to Know About Cloud Computing?

Infrastructure of a small business or even a large enterprise, technology leaders have generally been forced to choose between buying and leasing hardware. With rates for power going through the roof and data center real estate very tight, these two options are becoming less and less attractive. However, with the advent of cloud computing,a new option exists. The promise: Forget all about hardware and hosting costs and migrate your applications to the cloud.

Cloud Computing Services

Cloud computing refers to myriad technology functions that are offered as a service via the cloud (aka the Internet). Most people have heard of software as a service (SaaS) by now, due to the success of such companies as Salesforce.com. But it's not just software. IT functions are offered via the cloud nowadays, too. One of the most exciting new offerings isinfrastructure as a service, or cloud infrastructure, defined as the use of IT infrastructure—servers, routers, switches, and the like—offered as a service over the Internet. With cloud infrastructure, you don't have to own or lease any hardware; you pay for your use of someone else's.

Cloud computing refers to the virtual servers that are available on the Internet.  Companies can make use of cloud computing services without capital disbursement for additional hardware.
